Description :

In the beginning of the twentieth century the Dutchmathematician Luitzen Egbertus Jan Brouwer published his first papers on intuition and logic. There is no indication that Henri Poincaré was aware of these publications, but it would have been interesting to know what he had have to say about them. In this article Dirk van Dalen, Emeritus Professor Logic and Philosophy of Mathematics, compares the ideas of Poincar´e and Brouwer on the foundations ofmathematics.
